Openings

We are looking for Ph.D. students and Postdocoral research fellow who are interested in computational design for rechargeable batteries and AI for science. Our group values diversity, and there are no citizenship/gender restrictions.

Graduate Student

Please contact Dr. Deng for more information. Experiences in computational materials science is not essential and we welcome people from different background. Potential graduate students should follow the admission requirement to the Graduate Research Programmes, especially the GRE requirement. For more information on application, fees, graduate scholarship, please refer to NUS Graduate School.

We also support excellent candidate to apply for Singapore International Graduate Award (SINGA), A*STAR Graduate Fellowship and President’s Graduate Fellowship, and AI Singapore Scholarship (AISG). Please refer to scholarship list.

Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Prospective candidates are encouraged to submit their CV directly to Dr. Deng. The candidate should have a Ph.D. in materials science, chemistry, chemical engineering, physics, or a related field at the commencement of employment. The focus for postdoctoral positions will involve the application of computational techniques to design materials for rechargeable batteries and renewable energy applications. Our offerings include benefits such as medical insurance and vacation leave.

We are seeking ideal candidates with the following qualifications:

  1. A profound understanding of solid-state physics/chemistry and general physical chemistry. Knowledge of thermodynamics, quantum mechanics, and statistical mechanics is desirable.
  2. Proficiency and experience in computer simulation methods, including density-functional theory (VASP/CASTEP/Quantum Espresso), (ab initio-) molecular dynamics (LAMMPS/CP2K), Monte Carlo, finite element (COMSOL) etc.
  3. Experience and skills in scientific programming (Python/C++/C) and data analysis, including familiarity with UNIX/Linux operating systems and command-line environments (BASH, CSH, etc.), machine learning and deep learning, as well as good understanding of high-performance computing hardware.
  4. A track record of publishing papers in scientific journals and excellent presentation skills.

We also support excellent candidate to apply for Eric and Wendy Schmidt AI in Science Postdoctoral Fellowship , Lee Kuan Yew Postdoctoral Fellowship, and NUS Society of Fellows.

Undergraduate Student

If you are ethusiastic about what we are doing and want to dive into research at your early stage, please contact Dr. Deng for more information.

Facilities

We have our own high performance computing (HPC) facilities: over 1792 CPU cores (~20 nodes). We offer workstations (laptops & desktops) for data analysis and post-processing.

We also have successful track records accessing various HPC facilities around the world:
